With bridal fashion becoming less and less traditional, choosing a unique wedding veil can be a fun wedding dress accessory to pull your wedding ensemble together. Why not take advantage of the cool wedding veil trends now available to set you apart from the crowd? Away with the traditional one or two-tier veils with basic blusher. Away with white and ivory veils… think outside the box! Below are five hot trends for wedding veils that really make a statement.

Colored veils: This year, colored veils are popping up everywhere. White and ivory are the traditional choices, but dare to be a little different by choosing a light pink, nude, light blue or any other pastel wedding veil. If you really want to be unique, go with bold colors, such as red, black, and even orange (very popular for Fall weddings). Colored veils are available in all standard lengths and tiers, along with the ever-popular bird cage veil.

Headband veils: Many brides, especially vintage and bohemian brides, are opting for a very non-traditional veil. This is a trend that is just taking hold of the bridal world. A headband veil is one piece of material, wrapped around the forehead or top of the head, tied under the neck, and allowed to flow freely at the bottom. It is such a unique look, plus it doubles as your bridal headpiece!

Gold and silver veils: This look is perfect for the bride that likes bling, glam, or just likes to shine! Gold tinted veils are great for the old-Hollywood look. Silver veils would look great on the uber contemporary, cutting edge bride. As with the colored veils, these veils are also available in standard lengths and tiers, as well as bird cage veils. Be careful if you choose this look—gold and silver veils are heavier than a regular veil—make sure you can deal with that.

Bridal hat veils: Funky bridal hats are all over the runways. Many have connected veils. This is a very daring look for any bride. You can find smaller side hats, or even top hats. It is recommended if you go this route to keep the colors traditional. Also, make sure your hat veil works with your hairstyle. No bride wants hat head on the big day!

Peacock-style veil: These veils are also starting to make a comeback. Think of the 1980s with the huge fanned out veils… large and in charge! This is also a chic choice for the modern bride who is looking to bring the retro look back to life!

Throughout her career, Bette Midler has been known for her sassy repartee off camera and her dramatic and comedic acting chops on the small and silver screens. But it’s her stage persona, as the Divine Miss M, that she is best known for. Her live concert shows rely heavily on an array of designer dresses — from classic Emilio Pucci garments to spectacular costumes by Bob Macki, including her iconic Delores Delago mermaid costume and the sailor costume that was part of her concert between 2003 and 2005.

Midler is planning to auction off these collectibles as well as stage sets, art work, jewelry and other personal items, such as the Valentino special occasion dress she wore to the Academy Awards in 1992, the year she received a Best Actress nomination for her performance in For the Boys. Midler admits the dress holds a special place in her fashion heart, calling it one of the most beautiful dresses she has ever owned.

“I was so happy to be going to the Academy Awards for a picture that my production company produced. I didn’t win, but I felt so wonderful in this dress. Mr. Valentino has been a friend for many years, and every time I see him I thank him again,” she said of the dress.

The sale is being organized by Julien’s Auction in Beverly Hills and is scheduled to take place November 12. Proceeds will be donated to the New York Restoration Project, a non-profit charity Midler founded in 1995. The organization is dedicated to maintaining parks and community gardens throughout New York City.
